The 2025 Pre-Site Visit Training for Mid-Term Evaluation Program
“The 2025 Pre-Site Visit Training for Mid-term Evaluation Program” was organised by The Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC).
Nearly 300 evaluators from higher education institutions, who took part in the mid-term evaluation program, participated in the online training held on 27 March 2025.
Prof. Ümit Kocabıçak, THEQC President, gave the opening speech of the training. Informing that 32 HEIs, including 5 universities that have previously received full accreditation and 27 universities that have received conditional accreditation, will be evaluated within the scope of the 2025 mid-term evaluation program, President Kocabıçak informed the participants about the schedule of the mid-term evaluation process and how it will work.
Providing information about some new implementations made in the evaluator system within the scope of the digitalization work carried out by THEQC in the field of quality assurance in higher education, President Kocabıçak pointed out that the importance of institutional accreditation has increased considerably in recent years. Stating that institutional accreditation brings great advantages to HEIs in terms of equivalence, recognition and visibility in Türkiye and the world, he said, “Universities need to be very well-known by the team when creating reports as a result of the evaluation.” President Kocabıçak stated that the number of universities with institutional accreditation has reached 104, and added that THEQC wants to complete the accreditation process of all universities by 2027 and that these evaluations will contribute greatly to the qualitative development of universities.
After the opening speech, Prof. Yunus Nadi Yüksek, THEQC Expert, made an informative presentation on THEQC Evaluation Programs Guide (Version 3.2) and Mid-term Evaluation Program. He gave detailed information to the participants about THEQC’s fields of activity, rubric, the new guide and the changes made.
Asst. Prof. Sibel Orhan Yıldız, THEQC Expert, made a presentation on “A Roadmap for Evaluators.” She made a presentation on the qualifications of an evaluation team, roles and responsibilities in the evaluation process, the visit process, the principles of communication within the team and the expectations of THEQC.
Dr Resul Telli, THEQC Expert, informed the participants on “Report Writing Process and Consistency Work.” In his presentation, Dr Telli elaborated on the mid-term evaluation report, preliminary review, consistency work, and writing suggestions suitable to maturity levels.
Res. Asst. Sena Çatal, THEQC Expert, made an interactive presentation on “Sample Criteria Evaluation.” In the activity, participants were given excerpts from a sample evaluation report and asked to answer the prepared questions with appropriate options.
The training, which was held in two sessions in the morning and afternoon, ended with a question-and-answer session and a satisfaction survey for the participants.
