THEQC Grants Institutional Accreditation to 31 HEIs Under IAP 2024
The Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC) granted institutional accreditation to 31 HEIs under the Institutional Accreditation Program to increase their quality, contribute to the sustainability of their quality assurance, and increase international competitiveness.
With the decision taken at the Council meeting in March, Adana Alparslan Türkeş Science and Technology University, Aksaray University, Amasya University, Ardahan University, Bayburt University, Beykoz University, Çankırı Karatekin University, Düzce University, Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Gebze Technical University, Iğdır University, İstanbul Bilgi University, İstanbul Gedik University, İstanbul Gelişim University, İstanbul University – Cerrahpaşa, Kastamonu University, Kırıkkale University, Kırklareli University, Kocaeli University, KTO Karatay University, Maltepe University, MEF University, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Muş Alparslan University, Piri Reis University, Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, Sanko University, Siirt University, Sivas Cumhuriyet University and Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University and Izmir Kavram Vocational School have been accredited under the 2024 Institutional Accreditation Program.
Prof. Ümit Kocabıçak, THEQC President, stated that THEQC strives to develop the quality assurance systems of universities in Türkiye with a more inclusive, stakeholder-oriented and innovative approach, and informed that 35 HEIs were evaluated within the scope of the Institutional Accreditation Program for 2024. Noting that the Institutional Accreditation Program is carried out with the criteria determined by THEQC, President Kocabıçak stated that 4 HEIs that sufficiently met these criteria were granted full accreditation for 5 years, 27 HEIs that partially met these criteria were granted conditional accreditation for 2 years, and a refusal of accreditation decision was taken for 4 HEIs.
Stating that universities with institutional accreditation had many advantages, such as assuring the quality of education, international recognition of diplomas, attracting qualified academics and students to universities, continuous improvement and development, strong relations with stakeholders and the business world, increasing research opportunities, and increasing student satisfaction and participation, he added that the information on HEIs institutionally accredited by THEQC was shared with the public in the Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide issued for students taking the Higher Education Institutions Exam conducted by the Centre for Assessment, Selection and Placement (ÖSYM). Additionally, President Kocabıçak expressed that the accreditation records of Turkish HEIs holding institutional accreditation were entered into the Database of External Quality Assurance Results in Europe (DEQAR), which brings great advantages to the HEIs in terms of equivalence, recognition and visibility in the world and Europe.
