Within the scope of the cooperation protocol signed between the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Board (YÖDAK) and the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC), a training programme and information meeting on international institutional accreditation was held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on 23 June 2026.
Prior to the meeting, Prof. Ümit Kocabıçak visited Tufan Erhürman, TRNC President. During the visit, where Prof. Aykut Hocanın, YÖDAK President, was also present, information was shared regarding THEQC’s activities and the joint efforts conducted with the TRNC. Furthermore, President Kocabıçak provided briefings on the upcoming international institutional accreditation process to be initiated by THEQC and the significance of accreditations. President Erhürman expressed his gratitude to THEQC for their support.
President Kocabıçak, rectors of universities operating in the TRNC, representatives from the Ministry of National Education, quality commission members, and academic and administrative executives attended the “International Institutional Accreditation Training and Information Meeting,” which commenced with the opening speech of Prof. Aykut Hocanın, YÖDAK President, at the Presidential White Hall.
In his opening speech, Prof. Aykut Hocanın stated that THEQC President Kocabıçak would provide information on quality assurance processes and the International Institutional Accreditation Programme (IIAP), and that the quality management system software to be made available for universities would be introduced.
Prof. Hocanın noted that this software would provide significant convenience to universities in matters such as collecting the evidence required during accreditation processes, writing self-evaluation reports, and monitoring continuous improvement cycles.
Stating that the efforts towards the institutional accreditation process are also supported by the Presidency, the Prime Ministry, and the Ministry of National Education, Prof. Hocanın emphasised that this is crucial for the sustainability of TRNC higher education.
As part of the programme, President Kocabıçak delivered presentations on “Globalisation in Education and the Importance of Accreditations in a Changing and Transforming World,” the “International Institutional Accreditation Program (IIAP),” and the “Integrated Quality Management System Software.”
Following the presentations, the event continued with a Q&A session.
The sessions concluded with a plaque presentation ceremony.
