THEQC Students Commission Carries Out the Quality Ambassador Workshop (QAW’23) for Higher Education Students

“Quality Ambassador Workshop (QAW’23)” was held by the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC) Students Commission for the students, who were granted certificates by participating in the workshop on 1 June 2023, to have the students acquire knowledge and skills about the processes in THEQC’s Institutional External Evaluation Programs.

To get prepared for the workshop, to which 112 students from different higher education institutions were invited, peer trainer training was held on 24-27 May 2023. The workshop started with the opening speeches of Erdoğan Taha Akbaş, THEQC Students Commission Chair, and Ahmet Kayhan Korkusuz, the Commission Vice-Chair, consisted of seven modules and was conducted in five virtual classrooms for seven hours. Asst. Prof. Gonca Uludağ, Academic Coordinator of the THEQC Students Commission, gave information about the THEQC Rubric and the use of the Rubric was exampled through a case study. Erdoğan Taha Akbaş, THEQC Students Commission Chair; Ahmet Kayhan Korkusuz, Commission Vice-Chair, and Aslı Özmutlu, Berkay Tarım, Esra Köyönü, Evra Gürbüz, Meliha Taşdemir, Melike Gülay, Mehmet Sezer Altun and Yusuf Polat, the Commission members, took role in the workshop as peer trainers.

The participants took part in interactive activities related to the use of the THEQC Rubric through a fictional simulation activity named “2022 Institutional Self-Evaluation Report Examination of Earth University”, the assessment of an ISER, the works of the evaluation teams, the issues to be considered in the processes, and the report writing. Seventy-eight students, 1% of whom are enrolled in associate, 87% in bachelor’s, 9% in graduate, and 3% in doctorate degree programs from 49 different higher education institutions and became successful in the workshop, were awarded certificates of participation with the decision of the Students Commission.

THEQC Students Commission will continue to carry out studies to ensure student involvement in higher education quality assurance work and spread the culture of quality among students. We thank all students for their interest and participation in the training.
