Turkish Higher Education Quality Council has held a Webinar on Quality Assurance in International Higher Education at its 5th foundation anniversary
ANKARA – Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC) has held an online Webinar on Quality Assurance in Higher Education for the 5th Foundation Anniversary of THEQC with participants over 300 from 35 different countries
In the opening speech, THEQC president Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Elmas has shared statistical information about the Turkish Higher Education System that has approximately 8 million students. Prof. Dr. Elmas stated that top-level is reached in many Bologna indicators in 2020 Bologna Process Implementation Report.
To strengthen the quality assurance in higher education in our country, THEQC, which was established in 2015 within the scope of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE)’s subsidiarity activities, has become an administratively and financially independent institution in 2017. Completing its 5th year as of 2020, THEQC continues its activities with the aim of contributing to the continuous and quality-focused improvement of higher education institutions, graduates’ efforts to have universal qualifications, and internalizing quality culture in all stakeholders of the higher education area.
In the Webinar, sessions were arranged separately on four different themes: flexible learning and quality assurance, internationalization and accreditation, agile leadership, and creating a quality culture, student participation in QA activities. In each session, current issues regarding higher education quality areas were discussed interactively between the speakers and the participants.
As known, the Covid-19 pandemic that has taken hold of the world at the beginning of 2020 brought along various challenges in higher education as in many areas and it is now realized that how important the agile online transformation is. In the Webinar, it was emphasized that while universities remain their diversity in the new complex world order brought by the pandemic, the importance of measurable process, development and accreditation was underlined.
