Certificate Presentation Ceremony for 22 HEIs Accredited in the Scope of the IAP
22 HEIs received the Institutional Accreditation Certificate at a ceremony within the scope of the 2024 Institutional Accreditation Program conducted by the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC).
The rectors, managers/directors, and quality unit managers of 22 accredited HEIs attended the ceremony held on 20 June 2025 at the 100th Year Conference Hall of Ankara University.
Prof. Ümit Kocabıçak, THEQC President, gave the opening speech of the ceremony. Stating that higher education in the world entered a great transformation process with the development of artificial intelligence, Kocabıçak said, “To survive in the future, it will be necessary to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into social sciences and science. It is crucial to provide students with green skills and train graduates with creative and analytical thinking through programs focused on renewable energy and sustainability. We are bombarded with data. Higher education is also taking shape in this context. If we can give our graduates the ability to think creatively and analytically, our graduates will be able to survive in this world.”
Stating that Türkiye is a country with a great number of young people, President Kocabıçak, continued, “Our country is lucky in this sense. Our universities are sufficient in terms of quantity. However, we need to improve the quality of our universities. THEQC aims to define and monitor studies to improve qualifications.”
Stating that there are nearly 7 million students in higher education in Türkiye, and 334 thousand of them are international students, President Kocabıçak mentioned that the accreditation records of the universities holding institutional accreditation are entered into the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) database. Emphasising the importance of the IAP in Türkiye, President Kocabıçak said, “International students who receive education in Türkiye and return to their home countries as graduates cannot receive diploma equivalence in their home countries if the university they graduated from does not have institutional accreditation.”
President Kocabıçak added, “Young people worldwide want to receive higher education in countries other than their own. The more students from our geography of hearts we can attract to our country, the more we will fulfil an important function for Türkiye’s future. However, we absolutely need to improve the quality of education. The way to do this is through quality assurance activities. Programs with accreditation are also awarded the TQF logo. If the TQF logo is printed on the transcript and diploma supplement of Turkish university graduates, it means that the diploma is in alignment with the European Qualifications Framework.”
After his speech, President Kocabıçak presented the accreditation certificates to the rectors and managers/directors of 22 HEIs that received institutional accreditation.
