Ankara University Receives the Institutional Accreditation Certificate
Prof. Ümit Kocabıçak, President of the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC) presented the Institutional Accreditation Certificate to Ankara University at a ceremony within the scope of the 2024 Institutional Accreditation Program conducted by THEQC.
President Kocabıçak, Prof. Mustafa Çufalı, THEQC Vice President, Prof. Necdet Ünüvar, Rector of Ankara University, Mehmet Yılmaz, THEQC Secretary General, the governing body of the university, and academic and administrative staff attended the ceremony held on 22 May 2025 at the Senate Hall of Ankara University.
In his opening speech, Rector Ünüvar referred to quality assurance as a continuous and never-ending process and expressed that institutional accreditation is an indicator that a university is committed to and maintains national and international standards in education, research, service to society and governance.
Assoc. Prof. Suna Ertunç, Ankara University Accreditation, Academic Evaluation and Quality Coordinator, also gave a speech providing information about the accreditation process.
After opening speeches, President Kocabıçak presented the Institutional Accreditation Certificate to Rector Ünüvar. He made a presentation on “The Importance of Quality Assurance Systems and Accreditations in Higher Education” at the ceremony.
In his speech, Prof. Kocabıçak focused on what needs to be done to establish a sustainable quality assurance approach in higher education and to disseminate quality culture, and explained the importance of institutional and program accreditations. He stated that in a changing and transforming world, human-specific skills, such as analytical thinking, flexibility, creativity and leadership, remained critical and that it became inevitable to develop innovative curricula focusing on areas, such as artificial intelligence, data science, and cyber security.
President Kocabıçak congratulated Ankara University and all the staff who contributed to achieving the Institutional Accreditation Certificate. The ceremony ended with a questions-and-answers session.
