President Kar Speaks on "Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education" at Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University
Prof. Muhsin Kar, the President of the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC), attended a conference at Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University (KSU) to give a speech on “Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education.”
Prof. Alptekin Yasım, KSU Rector, made the opening speech of the conference organised at KSU Yunus Emre Cultural and Congress Centre’s Sezai Karakoç Conference Hall.
Giving information about quality assurance and accreditation processes in higher education institutions, President Kar noted that quality assurance would increase access to higher education and contribute to the learning and teaching, research and development, service to society, and governance functions of universities, thus reflecting the activities carried out in universities to society.
Stating that the higher education system should prepare students for life by considering national and global competencies, President Kar added, “Students must be equipped with life skills, critical and analytical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, flexible working, self-expression that are the 21st-century skills, in addition to providing only field-specific education. Quality assurance is of key importance for doing this.”
President Kar, who also gave examples from the higher education quality assurance systems in the world, gave detailed information about the institutional evaluation processes carried out by THEQC in Türkiye. Referring to the fact that the Institutional Accreditation Program (IAP) has been made compulsory with the latest amendment in the legislation, President Kar stated that THEQC carried out the IAP evaluation through the Rubric system and explained the criteria in the Rubric system in detail.
President Kar visited Rector Yasım in his office before the conference and received information about the quality assurance work at the university.
