Prof. Muhsin Kar, THEQC President, Attends the Congress on "The Art of Understanding the Universe: Basic Sciences"
Prof. Muhsin Kar, the President of the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC), attended the Congress on “The Art of Understanding the Universe: Basic Sciences” organised in Konya with the collaboration of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO and the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA).
Prof. Muhsin Kar, THEQC President; Prof. Muzaffer Şeker, TÜBA President; Prof. Metin Aksoy, SU Rector; Dr Şule Ürün, Secretary General of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, and Prof. Ülkü Sayın, Chair of the Congress Executive Board and Faculty Member at SU Faculty of Science, delivered the opening speeches of the Congress held on 11-12 October 2022 and hosted by Selçuk University (SU).
Expressing that they came together in a beautiful and meaningful organization, President Kar said that the idea of sustainability in the curricula of universities would come to the fore in the coming years with a holistic understanding covering everything from health to social sciences and engineering. Stating that awareness of quality assurance and accreditation would be created in universities on sustainability, Prof. Kar added, “The criteria are updated from time to time in the international framework. Therefore, these issues will become more important in the future.”
In his opening speech, Prof. Muzaffer Şeker, TÜBA President, stated that TÜBA had carried out awareness studies during the “International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development”.
Prof. Metin Aksoy, SU Rector, stated that SU continued to support scientific studies, strived for the university’s internationalisation, and supported campus life, physical spaces, and scientific projects.
Dr Şule Ürün, Secretary General of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, also said she believed the event would make students love basic sciences more and open their horizons.
Continuing with the “Awareness Session” after the opening ceremony, the two-day Congress included sessions on basic sciences, seminars, poster and stand presentations, and painting, design, theatre and film activities.
