IZMIR – THEQC granted the Institutional Accreditation Certificate to Dokuz Eylül University (DEU) in a ceremony within the scope of the ”2021 Institutional Accreditation Program” conducted by the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC).
The ceremony was held on 25 July 2022 at July 15 Martyrs Hall in DEU Rectorate with the attendance of Prof. Muhsin Kar, THEQC President; Prof. Nükhet Hotar, DEU Rector; Prof. Olgun Çiçek, THEQC Adviser; Mustafa Çolak, THEQC Expert, and academic and administrative personnel of the university.
President Kar congratulated Dokuz Eylül University for its success in the external evaluation process and for having an Institutional Accreditation Certificate. Mentioning that such achievements highlight the topics of leadership, management and quality, Prof. Kar said, “We also attach great importance to leadership. The rectors’ owning this process draws attention as an essential factor in strengthening universities’ understanding of quality. We know that the involvement of stakeholders in quality processes also plays a vital role.”
Expressing that THEQC cares about universities’ reflecting their basic functions such as learning and teaching, research and development, and service to society to the public with an understanding of continuous improvement, President Kar continued his words, “The Institutional Accreditation Program is included in the OSYM guide for the benefit of candidate higher education students. THEQC has been noted as an accreditation agency in the guide for the universities granted the Institutional Accreditation Certificate, including Dokuz Eylül University. Information about the accreditation status is also included in the explanation section. Other universities in Türkiye will also be included in this program until 2027. There will also be unaccredited universities. We will continue to visit universities every two years. So, an accredited university should not think that grant of accreditation is the end of the process.” Stating that higher education institutions have a great responsibility regarding distance education, lifelong learning, and future jobs, Kar noted that they should adopt a ‘student-centered education’ approach.
Expressing that DEU is one of 20 research universities in Türkiye, Rector Hotar said, “We attach importance to investments and projects that will raise quality and service standards. We regard the Institutional Accreditation Certificate not as a start but as a reference point to go further. We know that instilling and internalizing the concept of quality is as difficult as getting a certificate. I want to thank valuable members of THEQC, especially Prof. Muhsin Kar, THEQC President.”
President Kar presented the Institutional Accreditation Certificate to DEU Rector Hotar after the speeches.
