THEQC Students Commission Participates in an INQAAHE Panel on “Building a Global Culture of Quality: The Role of Students in Quality Assurance”
Information about student involvement activities in both internal and external quality assurance works was shared at the seminar held by INQAAHE on 8 May 2023 and attended by the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC) Students Commission.
Erdoğan Taha Akbaş, Chair of THEQC Students Commission, Berkay Tarım, Evra Gürbüz, and Yusuf Polat, the Commission members, and Asst. Prof. Gonca Uludağ, Academic Coordinator of the Commission, attended the seminar.
The seminar was moderated by Mary Catharine Lennon, INQAAHE Director at the Board of Directors. Derfel Owen from University College London provided information on the historical foundations that led to current practices involving students in quality assurance activities. Ellen Dixon from the Global Student Forum highlighted the value of the involvement of all voices, providing information on regions that are developing and improving student involvement activities in external quality assurance. Horia Onita from the European Students’ Union talked about the activities of the region, which is a leader in student involvement in external quality assurance practices.
131 participants from many countries, such as Spain, Belgium, Malaysia, Taiwan, Pakistan, USA, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Republic of Fiji, and Bahrain took part in the event. The event ended with examples of student involvement in institutional QA processes by Jovan Groen from Western University, Ontario, Canada.
