ANKARA – Prof. Kar, THEQC President, attended the 2022 World Higher Education Conference that was organised by UNESCO in Spain.
The 2022 World Higher Education Conference (WHEC2022), organised by UNESCO in Barcelona, Spain, between 18-20 May 2022, aimed to ensure sustainable development for the world and humanity and reshape the ideas and practices in the higher education context within this framework.
Experts and all higher education stakeholders from all over the world attended the Conference that was planned to be held in 2021; however, postponed to 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Conference, which UNESCO regards as an opportunity to deepen and expand joint efforts on knowledge production, policy dialogue, exchange, and networking, emphasized the need to restructure what higher education will mean in the future.
Questions such as, “What would the higher education and university concepts be like if they were invented today? Who would attend and get their higher education degree? How and where should participants learn? What knowledge, skills, competencies and values need to be developed in order to work, be a world citizen and live in dignity? What does significant research and knowledge production involve? Will these changes be guided by institutional leaders, policy-makers, researchers, students, professors, employers, society leaders, or civil society groups?” were discussed at the Conference that aimed to create a new learning environment in the context of higher education.
WHEC is organised once every ten years by UNESCO. WHEC2022, the third conference so far, drew attention also to the global change caused by Covid-19 and aimed to set the roadmap of higher education systems for the next period and bring all stakeholders together in this scope.
